Jay E. Kantor, Ph.D.,
received his doctoral degree in Philosophy from CUNY Graduate Center in
1979, and specialized
in Biomedical Ethics. Since then, he has worked in hospitals, medical
schools
and universities providing a variety of ethics teaching and
consultation
services, as well as designing and developing ethics committees. His
major
professional positions as a medical ethics specialist have been with
the
New York Harbor VA Health Care System, and New York Methodist Hospital
in
Brooklyn, NY. He is widely published in medical ethics, including the
text
book Medical Ethics for Physicians-in-Training (New York:
Plenum Publishing,
1989), and has been interviewed about medical ethics issues numerous
times
by the national media. Dr. Kantor serves on the board of the NY
Citizens
Committee for Health Care Decisions as well as the advisory board to
the
NY State Commission for Quality of Care for the Mentally Disabled.
